WEAKNESSES
-Inconsistent accuracy short
-Size
-Average arm strength
BELOW AVERAGE – Listed as just 6ft – 200lbs – and wouldn’t be surprised if that is shorter and lighter. MATT CORRAL’s biggest weakness is his size.
GOOD – He makes up for his size by being a solid athlete, has good quickness and elusiveness to evade the rush and extend the play – he is a legit threat on designed runs as well.
GOOD – Perhaps CORRAL’s next biggest weakness is that his arm strength leaves more to be desired. Has the arm for every NFL throw but it isn’t special. He wont be throwing on the run and across field like some NFL talents.
GOOD– Deadly accuracy on the deep ball and between the hashes on slants for example. Makes up for the size and arm strength with good ball placement.
GOOD – Makes the right choice the majority of the time and checks through his progressions with out panic. Cleaned up his turnovers to only 4 INTS this year.
BREAKDOWN
MATT CORRAL could easily be the first QB off the board and I would not have a problem with it. He does a lot of things really well; Sneaky athletic, pin point accuracy with solid decision making and poise in the pocket. Also, he lead Ole Miss to a great season, going against tough competition and only throwing 4 INTs this year. Solid completion percentage to boot – checks almost all the boxes. Problem is his arm strength is just good and he might be very small for NFL standards. We have seen more success of shorter QB’s in recent years, so the stigma is fading. But he is also not built very big while being mobile which is somewhat of a concern.
Overall, if you invest a top 5 pick in a QB, you’d like it to be a prototypical prospect to reduce the risk of a bust. Or if he had Kyler Murray’s arm strength and Heisman trophy – you could over look short QB’s(literally). But as it/he stands now, he carries a slightly more of a risk and the right team might find them selves a gem in the mid first.
