WEAKNESSES
-Questionable cardio/fitness
-Not an elite pass rusher
ELITE – A massive human being, reportedly could be 360 lbs standing at 6’6ft tall. Not many people in the NFL can compare.
GOOD – A quick burst, elite for his size. Enough to get the jump and split double teams. Has surprising range – able to make tackles deep in the backfeild or past the hashmarks when scraping down the line.
GOOD – Many people think he doesn’t have the pass rush moves to be a top 10 pick but I don’t know what film they are watching – Davis obviously can win a lot just on power and quickness alone. But he also has powerful and active hands, utilizing the rip/club/swim move when needed. Has plenty of pressures on film – could get close to 10 sack seasons in the NFL.
ELITE – The size/strength/ quickness combo is just too much too handle. He also has good awareness and recognition to feel where the run is going. Knows when to penetrate and when to scrap down the line of scrimmage or just anchor in place to clog the hole in double teams.
GOOD – Perhaps the biggest question mark for me, its not if he has the motor – he consistently plays with urgency and with good pursuit, running down plays and not giving up. But rather if he can play like that for 70% of the snaps in the NFL. If I’m drafting a guy in the top 10 – he needs to be on the field for over half of the plays. Defensive line plays in rotation, but I still need him on the field giving full effort at 350lbs lbs for 70% of the snaps. Can he do that?
BREAKDOWN
Mount Davis is what we should be calling him, truly a rare blend of size/power/quickness. Reminisce of early 2000’s NFL DT glory days, Marcus Stroud, John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth, Kris Jenkins and many more. Not many are built like Jordan Davis in todays NFL, built to destroy in the running game. He can hold his gap with ease during the double team and can toss aside at will on 1 vs 1’s. But what is most surprising is his quickness and active hands. Routinely getting the jump on opponents and utilizing rip, swim, push-pull moves etc to get to wherever he needs to be. Truly dominate at the college level and effecting the play on nearly every down.
Scouts question his pass rush ability, but he has all the tools to rush the passer and gets a ton of QB pressures; I don’t see it as a problem at all.
My biggest concern is what will his conditioning be? Will be be on the field 50% or 70% of the snaps? And how many of those snaps can you get 100% of his effort, because when Jordan Davis is switched on – its plain scary.
