THE BREAKDOWN
Won the QB competition at Ohio State and took advantage of the opportunity. Had a slow start then took off with video game like numbers. He has since slowed down a little, but to be fair he has lost some top WR targets to the NFL and injuries. Talent has never been the question – but rather if he has the ability to process information and have NFL level decision making. Coming from Ohio State almost hurts as much as it helps because of the rich talent at WR. His targets are almost always open by a larger margin than they will be in the NFL. Furthermore, when he does play against good competition CJ will occasionally disappear – which is concerning.
Justin Fields has had a slow start to his NFL career as a passer and STROUD has some of those same concerns. .
Overall, the need at QB with his traits and pedigree is at a premium in the NFL. And he has the chance to develop into a franchise QB. Picking STROUD in the top 10 is a little too much of a risk, I much rather acquire talent that will 100% contribute to my teams success. But anytime out of the top 10 – why not take a chance that CJ’s can develop into that top QB.
