Breakdown
Trevon Moehrig is a true safety that is the complete package. He plays zone at an elite level, both underneath and over the top. Reads the QB and route combinations to put himself in the best position to make plays. In addition, to playing the ball in the air very well – high pointing it for INT’s and pass breakups. He comes downhill quickly and in control to make secure tackles, blowing up screens and tosses/stretch plays. Playing off in man coverage, he can play too high and flat footed, allowing the WR to cross his face – then playing catch up. QB’s in the NFL can drop it in the bucket with that little separation. He has good speed but not elite, but his positioning and awareness in zone allow him to cover ground and have great range.
Trevon Moehrig can play in any system and move all around the field. Doesn’t matter if he plays free safety or strong, he can switch it up play to play. Which allows a lot of flexibility on defense for blitzing and showing different looks. True safeties that can do it all are a rarity in the NFL, typically they have to be put in certain schemes and positions to succeed -Moehrig’s talents should place him in the 1st round.
